Austria — Klimt’s 150th Birthday in 2012

3

Austria and the world are celebrating the 150th birthday of Gustav Klimt in 2012. Vienna will be the focus of special art exhibitions of the artists’ works throughout the year at the Belvedere Palace, Museum of Fine Arts, Wien Museum, Albertina, Leopold Museum, Austrian Theatre Museum, Klimt villa and more.Gustav Klimt was the speaker and organizer of the Jugendstil art movement also known as Art Nouveau. He created some of the most famous Art nouveau paintings worldwide. His most famous painting, “The Kiss” between 1907 & 1908 marked the peak of his “golden phase”, a new creative period characterized by the dominance of ornamentation and the increased use of gold leaf. Klimt never painted self-portraits; he preferred to paint people — “especially women” in mostly erotic forms.

2012 will be an exceptionally good year to visit Austria and Vienna in particular whether it is you’re your first time or returning to enjoy the largest collection of Gustav Klimt’s work ever put together!
