Florence, reflections on the Arno River

1

On a recent trip to Florence I woke early one morning to see the city before the tourists were up and about and walked along the Arno River and was amazed at how calm the water was. This permitted beautiful reflections of the colorful buildings onto the water and I was enthralled. The lighting of the early morning sun hit these buildings and the water at just the right angle to enhance the reflections and create beautiful double images. While Florence is normally a bustling city with lots of cars, mopeds, bicycles and pedestrians moving about at fast paces, I suggest at least one morning you rise early and take a walk along the promenade or sidewalk paralleling the Arno River and take in the sights and sounds of what this city may have looked like in its prime time long before the invasion of modern traffic.
